After much consideration and research, the first grade team has decided against assigning homework this school year. While there may periodically be projects to be completed at home with parental support, there will be no formal weekly or nightly homework assigned to the students.
We still expect that your child will read for 20-40 minutes each night.
If you're interested in practicing skills with your child after school, a Language Arts one-pager will be coming home each week. You can use this to have a spelling bee, put vocabulary words into sentences, or practice the weekly reading goal with a book from home or your local library. Additionally, MathBeforeBed.com is a great site to use for discussing math concepts and ideas around numbers and categorization.
